Must See Fashion Film: The September Issue

Drop whatever it is you’re doing immediately and go see The September Issue featuring Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. The film by R.J. Culter is both an inspiring and intimate look at what goes on behind the scenes to put together the coveted September Issue at Vogue magazine. The film which premiered last year at The Sundance Film Festival is now open in 12 countries and more than 50 markets. “It’s been an extraordinary and whirlwind experience,” says R.J. Culter. The film even broke the $2 million dollar mark in the U.S. earlier this week. It’s absolutely a must-see film for anyone who loves fashion and wants a never-before-seen look behind the pages of Vogue. The handbags, the shoes and the endless rolling racks filled with designer clothes are enough to make even the most seasoned fashion industry veteran drool.

In the film Anna is both candid and coy. She lets viewers see her daily life both in the office and at home. And although throughout the film she often looks expressionless it’s hard to ignore the fact that in the fashion world she’s practically “the pope” as one of her staff members points out. Everyone knows that if Anna Wintour gets behind something it sells. Even the CEO of Nieman Marcus asks Anna in the film if she can help work with the designers on production and delivery because they simply aren’t doing a good enough job keeping up with the demand for merchandise.

Anna Wintour grew up in London in the 60’s and fell in love with the fashion revolution that was going on in Europe at the time. Her father, Charles Wintour, was a newspaper editor for London’s Evening Standard and persuaded her to pursue a career as the Editor of Vogue.

Grace Coddington, the Creative Director at Vogue also plays a major role in the film. She’s the woman behind all the fashion spreads in the magazine and her background includes 15+ years with British Vogue and another 15+ with American Vogue. Her best advice from the movie? “You can’t stay behind. You have to go charging ahead,” says Grace.

“Fashion is about looking forward,” says Anna Wintour and you can certainly expect to look forward to this fabulous film.

I Heart Style Rookie

As a fellow fashion blogger I can appreciate good fashion content and that is why I am a major fan of Tavi Gevinson, a quirky 13-year-old fashion blogger from Chicago who is quickly taking the entire fashion industry by storm. She was recently invited to sit front row during New York Fashion Week at Maria Cornejo, Marc Jacobs, Yohji Yamamoto and Alexander Wang. Tavi’s website “Style Rookie” has over 4 million followers and the content is uber impressive for someone so young. This girl’s got major talent! Check out her site by clicking here.

Jean Paul Gaultier + Target

Could it be? A possible collaboration between Target and Jean Paul Gaultier!? Sources told WWD that Gaultier could be up next in Target’s Designer Collaboration series. “We don’t have anything to share other than we admire his work and incredible design aesthetic,” a Target spokesman said Thursday. We all know something is in the works and we'll post more details soon!

Move over Polyvore, Looklet is Taking Over!

Move over Polyvore. I just fell in love with Looklet. It’s an online styling studio that lets you put together full outfits on a virtual model. All you do is select your item then drag and drop it. All clothes are real, selected by stylists, from real designers. Looklet adds hundreds of new outfits each week and keeps track of new designers and promising new talent in the industry. Users can select their own model and even change the background so that their virtual styling session is set in the perfect location.

Once you put together a set you can also view it as is, up close or even from behind. You can also click on each item and be taken directly to the website it came form. And of course, once you create new looks you can easily send a link for others to check out via Facebook, Twitter and Myspace.

This site could keep me occupied for hours! I love it. Check it out now by clicking

I'm addicted to CC Skye

At a recent warehouse sale I picked up a fabulous white CC Skye Bag (pictured above) that was marked down to over 50% off from Seattle Boutique, Clutch. It was such a steal I couldn't pass it up and let's be honest- this bag is classic and will last FOREVER.

CC Skye has done bags for the Gossip Girls and celebs including Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Sienna Miller and Nicole Richie. Women's Wear Daily has even proclaimed CC Skye handbags as "Consistently ahead of the trends".

Based out of LA, CC Skye and is known for signature gold hardware that can be found on almost every bag in the collection. I heart every bag from her line and don't even get me started on the jewelry.... Click here for more info on CC Skye or click here to shop for a CC Skye bag right here in Seattle!

Must-Have Fall 2009 Fabrics

Switching over my wardrobe from summer to fall is hard enough because I’m obsessed with chic sandals and mini dresses. Lucky for me this fall is filled with fabrics I can live in and get excited about. So with that being said, here’s a look at some of my favorite Fall 2009 Fabrics.

Leather-
As seen at YSL, Max Mara, Bottega Veneta, Alberta Ferretti, Michael Kors, Prada and DKNY among others. Leather is classic and when it's done right it can look amazingly polished. Not quite into the leather trench or full leather dress? Try a fitted leather jacket and some dark denim with a pair of heels.

Velvet -As seen at Chloe, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Carolina Herrera.  I admit I haven't worn velvet since the mid 90's and it's a difficult fabric to wear if you're not a size zero but I still suggest that you experiment with it this fall. You may just find a piece that you'll fall in love with

Lace
- As seen at Louis Vuitton and D&G.  I love lace. It's so romantic and of course, there are so many ways to wear it. I also love that lace looks so beautiful with pearls.

Herringbone & Tweed-
As seen at Christian Lacroix, Gucci, Luella, Alberta Ferretti and Proenza Schouler. Thankfully this fall isn’t all about menswear like it was last year- but that doesn’t mean the trend is dead. If you don't feel like going all the way, get a nice pair of charcoal pumps in a menswear fabric of your choice.

Sequins- As seen at Balmain, Gucci and Marc Jacobs. The 80’s wouldn’t be quite so outrageous if it wasn’t for the sequins. I mean really, how else could you make an over the top sweater pop? Sad but true, sequins are back and they’re not just for the party girls who shop at Top Shop. Sequins are for everyone. My advice- don’t wear it head to toe. And if you’re too scared to try this trend, play it safe and get a sequins clutch to carry around this fall instead.

Silk- Beautifully draped dresses made of shiny silk were seen on the runway at Louis Vuitton, Donna Karan, Dior, and Balenciaga.  They are feminine and easy to wear.

Metallics- As seen at Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. It's a total 80's trend but could end up being so cute if you can find a way to pull it off.  I'd suggest not going head to toe metallic- but you'll have to make the call for yourself.
