Introducing: Plaid Doctrine

Style and sustainability fuse together beautifully at Plaid Doctrine. Based in Seattle, the Plaid Doctrine team proves that work bags and accessories can be savvy, environmentally friendly and stand up to extensive travel. Founder Suzanne Park has logged 300,000+ miles traveling for work and created Plaid Doctrine after feeling frustrated with the bags available on the market at the time. Her line of vintage-inspired bags are built for modern times and made from high performance recycled fabrics and prime grade, vegetable-tanned leather. “These are the kinds of bags I would’ve killed for in my days of non-stop travel," says Suzanne, "They’re good-looking, but not too trendy. They’re green. And they’re built to last. It’s a win/win/win!”

Plaid Doctrine carries a variety of products including these fabulous brief cases (pictured below) which double as a sleek laptop case (fits up to a 17'' screen). The fabric is made from recycled bottles and is water and stain resistant. I'm in love with the striped colorway, it looks like an old-fashioned suit case!

Plaid Doctrine also carries stylish sleeves (that are locally sewn) for your ipad. Light-weight, foam-padded and fully lined in hardy ripstop nylon, these ipad sleeves are attractive and don't smell like a scuba suit. (Amen!)

My favorite Plaid Doctrine piece is the red houndstooth laptop tote (pictured below). It's a cool fusion between a handbag, a backpack and a brief case, plus has adjustable straps, which is great for customizing the perfect length!

To minimize their carbon footprint, Plaid Doctrine sources all materials domestically and even manufactures 100% of their goods right here in the USA. Support a savvy & sustainable local business and check out the entire Plaid Doctrine line by clicking here!

Fall '10: Sway & Cake

Seattle boutique Sway & Cake has all of Fall's best trends covered! This season you'll see some great military-inspired pieces including jackets and pants, footwear in all shapes and sizes (including clogs!), chunky sweaters, skinny jeans, over-the-knee boots, gorgeous print blouses and a full spectrum of dresses for every occasion. Here's a look at some of the key items you'll see in store this fall.

Trend: Silk Blouse
You'll need a great blouse to pair with all your skinny jeans this season and this one from Tucker by Gaby Basora is the perfect way to fill the void. Sway & Cake has carried this classic silk blouse for years and to this day it remains one of their top sellers.

Trend: Military Jacket
This West Style Story Military Jacket is another fall must-have. This line was created in Los Angeles, but made from Vintage Military Jackets from Paris. Talk about authenticity! *Love*

Trend: Ankle Boot
Everyone needs a great ankle boot for fall. This Cynthia Vincent "Nevin Bootie" has wrapped leather adjustable straps around the ankle and a 4'' heel for some serious height. The entire staff at Sway & Cake is obsessed with this shoe because it goes with everything and is shockingly comfortable to wear.

Trend: Party Dress
This electric blue asymmetrical dress by Laila Azhar is in stock now and is the perfect outfit to wear to all your holiday parties and events. It features a hidden side zipper and yummy silk fabric. Sidlab Introduces Rain Drops

When you're a beauty company based in rainy Portland, Oregon, your mission is to come up with products that are both
protective and preventative. That's why Sidlab recently introduced Rain Drops, an argan oil treatment that is nourishing, quenching, deep penetrating, and adds brilliant shine to parched hair. The Argan oil even comes from a women's co-op in Morocco! (LOVE!)

Rain Drops is an anti-oxidant and vitamin E rich treatment that will restore luster and tensile strength to all hair types. Unlike the real thing (which no one likes in their hair), Rain Drops will protect hair from the effects of humidity by weighing down frizz and fly-aways. Much like an umbrella, Rain Drops uses UV filters to protect the hair from damage caused by the sun. This product retails for $29 and can be found locally at Salon Intermezzo on Queen Anne.

Insider Tip: Use as a leave-in treatment after cleansing and conditioning to maximize benefits!

Congrats on the new product launch Sidlab! We *heart* your MAGIC Dry Shampoo!

London Fashion Windows

Just because you can't pick up and go on a trend shopping trip in London doesn't mean you can't enjoy the window displays! Check out this great Primark window on Oxford Street. As you can see, it's all about chunky knit scarves, loads of layers, and fingerless gloves!

I'm also loving the ultra feminine theme happening this fall, complete with bows, sequins and lace. Throw on a strand of pearls and you're ready for a night on the town.

New Look was showing casual clothing paired with tights, ankle boots and lots of faux fur vests. (Don't forget the knee high socks!)

I'm so excited for fall!!!

Fall '10 Trend: Tights

One of my favorite fall trends is matching up a great pair of shoes with a fabulous pair of tights and although it may be 90 degrees in NY this week, all my lovelies on the West Coast are experiencing a full sneak peak of fall weather (complete with wind and random downpours.) That means only one thing: Break out the tights because fall is upon us!

Tights are not only fashionable but functional (especially if you live in the Pacific Northwest) and they are a great way to spruce up an otherwise borderline boring outfit by adding color and texture in a way that is subtle but sophisticated. Wearing tights in the fall is also the perfect way to bridge your end-of-summer wardrobe with your fall favorites to help you ease into the new season.

You'll find everything you need to wear this trend online at NY-based SockTheory.com. They carry tights, leggings and leg warmers in every color and style you can imagine. They even have the over the knee socks you've been seeing in fashion mags and on celebs like Lindsay Lohan. Shop online now by clicking here.

Don't forget to check out Sock Theory on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. And you can also catch up on the latest news on the Sock Theory blog.

Designer Cynthia Rowley Visits Obadiah Salon

In town for Bellevue Fashion Week, designer Cynthia Rowley recently visited Obadiah Salon prior to a VIP event and wanted a trim for her naturally curly hair. “I was inspired by September’s Vogue cover of Halle Berry and suggested Cynthia try a new cut for the show that evening” said stylist Vu Montgomery, “Anne Vincent [Director of Merchandising at Vogue] told her to trust me, and Cynthia gave me the freedom to give her a short bob, which suited her perfectly, it was sophisticated yet fun and flirty and she loved it!" Obadiah Salon was first approached in 2009 to style hair for the first-ever produced Vogue Front Row Fashion Show for The Bellevue Collection's Fashion Week and participated again this year in addition to styling for other shows throughout the week. "The excitement and hectic pace of Fashion Week can in a strange way remove a sense of expectation from the designers, they just do not know what to expect- except the unexpected. We need to be flexible, moldable and ready for any situation” says Michelle Kleppe, owner of Obadiah Salon. Meeting Cynthia was a pleasant departure from the mayhem for the entire staff at Obadiah Salon. “Cynthia was calm, charming, and down to earth…she was just like us!” said Vu.

Cynthia, we love the new hair! Great job Vu! We want you to do our hair next!
