5 Perfect Holiday Dresses

This fall I'm addicted to long sleeved dresses. Top Shop has a great assortment of affordable dresses to suit every occasion. Here are my 5 Favorite looks that are suitable for everyday wear and a few that are perfect for a bit of evening drama.

Fashion Forward: The draping on this long sleeved shift dress is beautiful! It's sophisticated and chic, plus has an exposed zipper down the back. This is the kind of dress you could wear to a stylish art opening or a party in the fashion industry. Pair this dress with a skyscraper high heel, solid gold rings, and a black clutch.

Metropolitan Maven: This short sleeve knit dress with a gold chain stitch detail is perfect for a holiday party in the city! Take it up a notch by adding a vintage faux fur leopard print jacket.

Romantic & Sweet: This maxi dress is perfect for a lush holiday soiree and like most good things, it's limited-edition. I love the pale pink dots and the drape on the sleeve. Keep the accessories simple with a dress like this to avoid visual overload.

Global Cool: This Indian Lace up dress has a fabulous print and quarter length sleeves. This is a great dress for holiday house parties or a casual cocktail hour with friends. Pair with opaque black leggings and suede black boots.

Party Girl: Silver beads adorn this little black v-neck dress with mesh sleeves. This is the perfect dress for a night on the town with friends. Pair with mesh metallic platforms and a gold handbag.

Style For Hire

What Not to Wear's Stacy London recently partnered with former apparel executive Cindy McLaughlin to form a company called Style For Hire. The premise behind the partnership is to make personal stylists available to the masses through the use of local stylists in your town. "People think of stylists as a luxury for somebody like Angelina Jolie," said McLaughlin," We are trying to make stylists available to everyone." The company launched in September of this year with a team of only 15 stylists, however the long-term goal is to create a national platform of quality stylists in virtually every metropolitan city. As Stacy London and her partner bring on additional stylists they will be trained via a 2-day seminar using the company's body-based approach and upon completion of the training will be certified by the Style for Hire team. Pricing varies for style services and on average range about $100 per hour. Services that Style for Hire provide include Closet Audits, Closet Shopping, and Personal Shopping.

Weldon Barber Makes Seattle Debut

Seattleites are never at a loss when it comes to great salons in the city, but many of these businesses cater to women, so today I'm pleased to announce that today Seattle will welcome a new barber shop to the Downtown area, Weldon Barber. This Washington-based collection of modern men’s grooming shops seeks to reinvent the barber shop experience. In collaboration with Aveda Men, Weldon Barber is commitment to creating a first-class barber experience by providing clients with a consistent, convenient, quality hair cutting service. Grooming services include: the Weldon Signature Cut, Weldon Kids Cut, Weldon Time Saver Cut, Head Shaving, Maintenance Services, Neck Shaves, Face Shave, Camouflage Color services, and Hand and Foot Grooming. Designed BY men FOR men, guests of Weldon Barber feel perfectly at home in oversized armchairs with their feet up while enjoying complimentary beverages and watching sports on flat screen TV's. (This is seriously my husbands dream!)

As part of Weldon Barber and Aveda’s joint venture, Kurt Kueffner, Men’s Market Development Consultant for Aveda, led a complete education program for Weldon Barber stylists on hair cutting for men. Stylists also learned how to incorporate value-added Aveda Rituals of Renewal—customized specifically for the male guest—to Weldon Barber’s regimen, including:

-Hot towel treatments featuring the Aveda Men Pure-Formance Composition, a multi-functional blend of essential oils that soothes and rejuvenates scalp, body and hair

- Hand massages with Aveda Hand Relief™, a rich hand creme derived from plant-based ingredients, that helps soften and smooth hands

-Scalp massages with Aveda Men Pure-Formance Composition

-Exfoliating shampoo treatments featuring Aveda Men Pure-Formance Exfoliating Shampoo, formulated to soothe and relieve dry scalp and hair

Seattle Make-Up Artist Jara Mohlman Shares 5 Beauty Secrets

Seattle make-up artist Jara Mohlman is more than just a pretty face. She's fierce with a brush and can completely transform any face into a make-up masterpiece. She recently shared 5 favorite beauty secrets with us and as much as we understand the importance of keeping a secret sacred- we HAD to share the wealth with all of you!

Seattle Boutique Blogspot: Ok picture this scenario: You're stranded on a desert island. What's the one product you can't live without?

Jara: I get asked this question all the time and it is really tough to narrow it down to one thing. I’m a MAC addict so it would certainly be one of their products. I think it would have to be MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer. Just a dab under the eyes and around the nose can really brighten the face. But then again, my Viva Glam V Lipstick is also a must have. It is like “your own lips but better” for most skin tones.

Seattle Boutique Blogspot: We live a 24/7 lifestyle which means we need products that can do it all. What's your favorite multi-tasking product?

Jara: Hands down, the MAC #109 Brush. I use this brush for applying liquid, cream or powder foundations, powder or cream blushes, highlighters, contouring and just for generally blending.

Seattle Boutique Blogspot: How often should I wash my make-up brushes and what's the best way to get them squeaky clean?

Jara: Again, the fact that I’m a MAC junkie is going to be very apparent here. There are actually many effective brush cleaners out there, but I use MAC Brush Cleaner. For my personal brushes I spot clean every few days and deep clean every couple of weeks. Spot cleaning is just pouring a bit of brush cleaner onto a tissue or paper towel and then gently wiping the brushes back and forth on it. To deep clean brushes, soak them in a solution of 2 part warm water and 1 part brush cleaner for about 20 minutes and then rinse them thoroughly, squeeze out any excess water and lay them flat with the hairs hanging off the edge of the surface. Professionally, I spot clean brushes between each client and deep clean them after every gig. Sometimes I will add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the mix.

Seattle Boutique Blogspot: 4pm melt downs as SO inconvenient. What insider tips do you have to make my make-up last all day?

Jara: One of the most common problems I see as a makeup artist is people choosing a foundation because it is popular or their friends wear it rather than choosing the formula that suits their skin type. Make sure you ask your artist at the store if they have a foundation specifically formulated for oily, dry, combination, acne prone, sensitive, etc. skin.

Additional tips:
- Exfoliate once or twice a week. This will remove dead skin cells that can cause acne and blackheads. This enhances the appearance of the skin and allows for better absorption of face products.

-Moisturize! Even if your skin is oily. If your skin is oily use a lightweight moisturizer. There are moisturizers that have oil controlling properties as well like MAC’s Oil Control Lotion. If your skin is dry use a dense moisturizer like Crème De La Mer or MAC’s Studio Moisture Cream. Moisturizing preps skin for foundation just as using Gesso on a canvas preps it for painting. Foundation better adheres to hydrated skin.

-Primers. Using a primer not only can reduce redness and texture, but it can help the foundation on the skin and help it wear longer throughout the day. We call it a “gluestick” for foundation.
Using a brush to buff foundation in better adheres it to the skin. I use the #109 Brush for any foundation type, moving the brush in small circular motions.

-Set foundation with a powder. This will absorb any excess oils that cause foundation to fade or transfer. I highly recommend MAC’s Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder for light to medium dark skin tones and Deep Dark Blot Powder for deeper skin tones.

Seattle Boutique Blogspot: What's the one product on the market that you are most excited about this-very-minute?

Jara: There is one thing that I love that is not MAC! Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara is the bomb. It is perfect for short, straight lashes. It gives volume, length and curl.

As a makeup artist I absolutely love MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation (for normal to dry skin). It looks amazing in photo and video. I’m a huge fan of Paint Pots. These can be worn alone or underneath shadows to help prevent creasing. Also, if you have a light skin tone, they can also be used to cover up pesky discolourations on the rest of the face.

Right now I’m also obsessed with Viva Cyndi, Dare You, Deepest Wish Lipsticks, Satin Taupe, Swiss Chocolate and Brule Eye Shadows, Blacktrack Fluidline and Smolder Eye Kohl, Peachykeen and Dainty Blushes and My Scottish Fling Mineralize Kit.

DELI launches Varsity Jacket

Crisp fall mornings call for a stylish and warm jacket that fits like a glove and fights the winter chill. DELI recently implemented an American classic into their offering with the addition of their Varsity Jacket originating from a collaborative effort with Washington's Skookum Sportswear. Each DELI Varsity is hand-stitched and made right here in the U.S.A. The button-down seam paired with a high fold-down collar and durable leather make for a warm and withstanding jacket to last for years to come. To make the jacket their own, DELI dropped the elastic from the waist to achieve a tailored look and added a signature Skookum/DELI wool tag.

DELI has also featured their signature Varsity a short film to encompass the piece. Click here to view the original video shot and edited by Chris Williams. Shop for the Varsity jacket online by clicking here. This American classic will have a permanent place in your outerwear wardrobe this fall and would also make a great gift during the upcoming holiday season.
