Nordstrom presents GQ Selects

Last month Nordstrom announced a new partnership with GQ magazine for an integrated marketing campaign that pulls product from the pages of GQ and highlights them on Nordstrom's website in a special section called "GQ selects". Beginning with the July issue (on newsstands now) editors from GQ worked with Nordstrom Mens Fashion Director Tommy Fazio to hand-select featured items.

This month's picks include a pair of olive green J.Brand slim-fit cargo pants, a Todd Snyder henley (currently sold out), a Jack Spade nylon backpack, a pair of Prada low-profile espadrille sneakers and a Thom Browne plaid oxford shirt. The partnership will continue through December featuring 12-18 key items each month.

The Stock List: Olivine

Seattle-based online boutique Olivine is a rare gem that regularly stocks labels like Prairie Underground, Suzabelle, Spun, SheShe and Kimberly Baker. Owner Julie Wray opened Olivine as a brick and mortar store back in 1997 and later took the business online. She now runs the e-commerce store in addition to running her secondary site Olivine's Charm School. Take a peek at what she's got in stock now.

This Happy Hour clutch is the perfect way to dip your toe into prints this season.  The colors are beautiful and the print makes this piece a home run. Need it tonight? If you live in Seattle, Olivine offers same-day delivery!

I'm a sucker for a knit dress and this one by Suzabelle has everything I look for when choosing a new piece. It's got a built in belt (with shiny hardware!), cool asymmetric detailing, short sleeves and simple stripes. I'd pair this with sandals and an armful of bracelets to hit the town.

Starting on July 1st the City of Seattle is banning plastic bags so you might as well stock up on stylish totes now.  I love this fuschia style by Baggu which features a feisty animal print.

Handmade in Portland by Marisa Howard for her line Seaworthy, these beautiful art deco earrings make a great gift for a friend or the perfect addition to your summer jewelry wardrobe.

Speaking of local designers, check out this Apron dress by Sara Seumae of Spun.  Made of 100% organic cotton this dress features elbow length sleeves, two front pockets and a fun print. Super easy to wear and machine washable. Love.

If you like to customize your accessories check out these vintage brass banners than can be stamped with up to 15 letters. Your name, your boyfriends name, your nickname, you name it- and it's yours. The length of the chain can also be customized for the perfect fit. Such a great gift idea!

The packaging on these SHE BELONGS THERE solid perfumes is way too cute to pass up. With notes of gardenia, jasmine and smoky vanilla you're bound to get hooked on the scent.

Chinos: A Menswear Classic

Men are less susceptible to fall for the demands of the rotating ‘seasons’ which the fashion world relies on to sell new merchandise at various points throughout the year so it's important that their wardrobes are built around classic pieces that can be styled up or down depending on the season. Simple cotton shirts, loose-cut linen suits, well-made classic t-shirts and crisp dark denim jeans are all great basics to invest in. A pair of quality chino pants is another item every man needs in his wardrobe because they will never go out of style. Chinos were originally worn by women in the French armed forces in the 19th century and grew in popularity as Spanish-American War veterans returned to the USA from the Philippines. Chinos have been a staple in menswear for many years and made an appearance on numerous high profile runway shows for Spring/Summer '12.

Largely famous for the classic beige colorway, the new mens chinos style feature a range of bright colors in reds and blues – something of a compliment to the fluorescent styles featured in the current collections for women. This modern update on the classic chino can still be worn with a stylish, clean approach. The combination of functionality, formality and fun means that men’s chinos will never fall out of grace.

Bullying is Never in Style

If you were bullied in high school or know someone who was then you already know how heartbreaking it can be. Designer Rachel Roy recently took a stand and designed two t-shirts for CharityFolks.com that will be auctioned off on June 8th to help raise money for Facing History and Ourselves, a non-profit organization that provides bullying prevention training to educators and administrators.

Rachel Roy is part of a long list of celebrities who have stepped up to support BULLY, a movie currently in theaters nationwide. “These tees get the message out loud and clear that bullying is a critical issue that needs as much attention as possible. I’m proud to join the fight for this meaningful cause," says Roy. 13 million kids were bullied in school this year. You can make a difference!

Goodwill to open new South Lake Union Store

Thrift store thrill seekers may want to mark their calendars now: Goodwill is planning to open a brand new store in South Lake Union at the end of July! Taking over the space of Honeychurch Antiques the store will be part of a new concept for Goodwill which will include a smaller format and a special selection of merchandise specifically aimed at urban city dwellers. "This is going to be a different kind of Goodwill store,” said Cindi Forslund, Vice President of Operations for Goodwill. The company specifically chose a space in South Lake Union for their new location because the area is known for it's long history of environmental awareness and support for recycling and re-use. The new store will be Goodwill's 22nd location in the Puget Sound region and be much smaller than existing stores in order to be a natural fit for the neighborhood. The store will be located at 411 Westlake Avenue.
