Design inspiration for the urban minimalist

I'll never forget the last party I hosted at my house. A friend came up to me looking confused and said,"Your house is so clean. Where is everything?" To which I smiled and replied, "What do you mean? This is it." I'm a minimalist. The less stuff I have the less there is to clean up and I like it that way. Over the years I've grown to appreciate minimalist design because it gives users the space they need to live their lives without drowning in, well, stuff. Minimalist design doesn't mean stark white walls and zero personality it means strategically choosing beautiful items to create a space that leaves you with plenty of room to grow.

Reversible denim now available at Queen Anne Dispatch

Stock up early on all your fall denim at local boutique Queen Anne Dispatch. In addition to tried & true styles by brands like Mavi this fall they will also be carrying reversible and coated denim by LA-based label Bleulab. The holiday line of reversible denim represents the "dual personalities" in people, for example, people who have both a business and artistic side, and people who want to quickly take their looks from day to night. The reversible denim comes in a variety of styles from light to dark, indigo to print, print to color, color to faux-leather, suede to foil, and more. And when you're ready to wash your new jeans, skip the traditional laundry route and head to your freezer instead. That's right, Bleulab denim is designed to be "freeze cleaned". Take a look at their "how-to" graphic below.

Seattle menswear boutique Blackbird to close

Today in heartfelt email to loyal client and friends, Nicole Miller announced that after 9 years in business, Blackbird will close it's doors. The menswear boutique located in Ballard has been recognized by numerous fashion magazines including GQ and has successfully created a loyal fashion following around the globe. Here's an excerpt from today's announcement by Nicole:

"In no way did I expect that people would take notice of my store, that Blackbird would win menswear awards, and that as I traveled the world, kids I met in other stores would freak out when I said that I owned a store in America called Blackbird.  The people were always the best part of this adventure.  The mission started out being about the clothes but quickly the people were what mattered most; to see them as who they are, to inspire them to take one step further than the last, and to let them know it was okay to be themselves.  I didn't know I would affect people.  I didn't know how much you people would affect me."

I know I'm not alone in saying that I'm sad to see it go. I cried when I read Nicole's email. Blackbird is a Ballard staple. Today is a sad day for Seattle Fashion. :( Say farewell to the Blackbird team on Saturday, July 7th from 5-10pm.
