Glittersweet joins Seattle Made

Known for their colorful vinyl handbags, Glittersweet has officially joined Seattle Made, a Seattle Good Business Network initiative to support urban manufacturers and craft producers in the city. Keeping production close to home has always been a top priority for Glittersweet owner Laura Silverstein and in addition to reducing lead times it also helps manage quality control. “The first bags we made were produced in my basement,” says Laura, “Now that the line has grown and sales continue to increase, local manufacturing resources have become vital for the business.”

With sales growing 46% in the first quarter alone, having access to local production facilities was critical for Glittersweet's inventory replenishment. Add to that the impending launch of a new style that will make its debut at the Fashion First Runway Show in September, Glittersweet anticipates a very productive year in 2015. Joining Seattle Made has allowed the company to align with other local businesses who are working to preserve domestic production and sustain urban manufacturing. Other noteworthy fashion brands in the collective include Blackbird, Fioravanti, Freeman, and Kavu.

“Entrepreneurial urban manufacturers like Glittersweet contribute to Seattle’s economic diversity and our cultural vibrancy. These businesses are key to growing living-wage jobs and their creativity are what help keep Seattle Seattle,” says Seattle Good Business Network Co-Director Erin Nelson, “Our goal is to do everything we can to make sure businesses like Laura’s can afford to stay and thrive in Seattle.”

Save the Date for the 12th Annual Fashion First Runway Show

Long before there was even a line-up of fall fashion events to attend in Seattle, Fashion First was providing a stylish platform for local brands and businesses to showcase the season's must-have trends. The 12th annual show sponsored by The Shane Co. and Skinceuticals will take place on Sept. 18th at the Showbox Sodo and feature Seattle's best boutiques including Canopy Blue, La Ree, Intermix, David Lawrence and more.

Just in time for the start of the Seahawks season, this year's theme is "12th Year, 12th Man". Fans who want to make a style statement and show off their Seattle Colors can shop on-site from the locally produced assortment of Glittersweet bags, which are perfect for game day. This year's event will benefit the Inspire Youth Project and The Crescent Moon Foundation. Tickets start at $50 for general admission and range up to $500 for VIP's. Learn more about the longest running independent fashion show in Seattle here: http://fashionfirstseattle.com/

Major shout-out to Executive Producer Joan Kelly for her long-standing support of the Seattle fashion scene. You've come a long way since the first event in 2004 at the Bada Lounge in Belltown when the Fire Marshall tried to shut us down because we were over capacity. I have absolutely loved seeing the growth and evolution of Fashion First.

See you on the runway!
