Fashion Field Trip: Snohomish Edition

For my latest fashion field trip, I joined Melody Todd of Honest Chatter on a journey 35 miles north of Seattle to a sweet little place called Snohomish. I don’t usually drive this far north to shop and I typically only visit Snohomish once a year when I’m headed to Craven Farms in search of the perfect pumpkin, but this time around, I’m on a mission to meet local shop owners and explore hidden-gem boutiques.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Snohomish was little more than a sleepy small town sprinkled with antique shops and farms. Back in the day, antique hunters would visit Snohomish and spend hours scouring local shops for secret treasures. Yet over the past few years, Snohomish has blossomed to become an unforgettable destination for boutique wineries, lifestyle shops, and independent jewelry designers. Downtown Snohomish is even home to Lamb & Co., an adorable home decor shop owned by the twins from the HGTV hit series, Unsellable Houses.

We started our adventure at Maple & Moss, which has a great assortment of Pacific Northwest-inspired apparel, accessories, and quirky gifts. I really liked that the mix includes products for men and women and that they carry a full range of sizes. I got the “Champagne for Breakfast” sweatshirt.

Next, we visited Mimi’s Boutique, a country-style boutique that sells clothing, accessories, home decor, and furniture. I love neighborhood boutiques like these that carry a fun mix of everything you need and a few things that you don’t but should probably buy anyway in the spirit of helping to stimulate the local economy. We got an eco-friendly sloth dryer ball, some adorable earrings, and a “Boss Lady” silicone wine cup.

Located just across the street you’ll find Snohomish Pie Co. For those of you with a serious sweet tooth, this may be the ONLY reason you visit Snohomish this year, and that’s ok because it will have been well worth the visit. In addition to classic apple pie, the assortment features a variety of other delicious favorites including Chocolate Pecan, Marionberry, Peach Raspberry Crumb, and Cherry. If you’re looking for an over-the-top experience, check out one of their Pie Shakes, which is literally an entire slice of pie blended with creamy vanilla ice cream.

Next up, we visited Worthy. This boutique is a true treasure trove of goodness and the curation is excellent. The product mix includes a range of clothing, jewelry, home decor, accessories, gifts, and even lighting fixtures. They also have a small vintage section in the back brimming with concert tees, denim jackets, sweaters, and outerwear. I really liked exploring everything this store had to offer and found an amazing gift for mom in the form of a beautiful decoupage oyster shell that doubles as a trinket dish.

Edit was one of my favorite boutiques in Snohomish because it was unexpected and reminded me of the stores that I frequently shop in the city. The store itself is huge and perfectly merchandised with a curated mix of clothing and accessories for men and women. I also loved the beautiful assortment of home fragrances and furnishings. You can even find plant-based cleaning products from Seattle brand L'AVANT Collective at Edit, which was a nice surprise to discover.

If you love fashion, don’t miss Golden Shop in Snohomish. They sell fun, accessible, and easy-to-wear clothing for women. You’ll find everything from cute sundresses to cowboy boots, overalls, handbags, and hats.

Jewelry fans can’t miss Point No Point in Snohomish, Julie Stark Allen’s jewelry studio inspired by the neutral beauty of the Pacific Northwest. All of the jewelry is handcrafted in Snohomish and all diamonds are conflict-free and ethically sourced. The 14k Rose Gold Sapphire Triangle studs are stunning and everything in the assortment is beautifully unique and worth checking out. You can even commission custom pieces using available loose stones.

Located right on the main street you’ll find Malicious Women Co. A sassy, woman-owned company that sells ethically-made candles, apparel, jewelry, and gifts. At the shop, you can design your own candle or buy one off the shelf. I promise you, there’s a perfectly hilarious one for every occasion. All of their candles are made from 100% natural soy (grown in the U.S.) and use a paper core wick that is lead-free. The burn time for each candle is approx. 40-50 hours.

For those with a green thumb, and those without (like me), don’t miss Retreat Plant Co. They specialize in indoor plants, terrariums, and beautiful ceramics. The staff can help pick out the best plants for each environment and can also arm you with the necessary information to keep them alive. They also do great workshops and parties.

Speaking of plants, nestled in Snohomish you’ll also find Sprig Flower Co., offering a beautiful mix of flowers, gifts, beauty products, and home decor. We recently worked with Alyssa and her team for an event in Seattle and the flowers were absolutely stunning! They also offer local flower delivery in Snohomish County.

The final store we visited to cap off our fashion field trip was Lamb & Co. They have a sweet little stop filled with kitchen essentials, living room decor, and products featured on the show. You can learn more about the twins and their HGTV show here.

5 Local Boutiques to Shop in Seattle with Rachel Waldorf x Syd Loves Fashion

There are so many incredible places to shop in Seattle, especially if you love to #ShopLocal. I recently had the chance to take Youtuber Rachel Waldorf around the city to visit some of my favorite shops around town and we had so much fun exploring! Unlike other cities, Seattle doesn't have one main shopping row like a Fifth avenue in New York or an Oxford street in London. Instead, we have a variety of neighborhoods that each have their own unique set of bars, restaurants, and shops. Here's a round-up of the boutiques we visited around town and a little more about why we love them:

Lika Love

Founded in 2013 by Malika Siddiq, Lika Love was originally founded as a fashion truck and later grew into 3 brick and mortar boutiques plus an e-commerce website. Rachel and I visited the Lika Love boutique on Lower Queen Anne just across from the Seattle Center and Met Market, but the company also has 2 more locations in the Alaska and Morgan Junctions in West Seattle. Lika Love carries apparel and accessories for women, plus shoes, shapewear, and even gifts. Local brands stocked at the store include Loho, Leia Beila, and French Girl Organics.
535 Warren Ave. N. Seattle, WA 98109
Neighborhood: Lower Queen Anne

Moorea Seal

Featuring over 150 different independent designers, Moorea Seal focuses on hand-made goods and garments made in the USA.  The store is often described as a "Pinterest board come to life" and it's easy to see why. The walls are painted pink, the potted plants are vibrant and green, and the merchandising makes you want to buy one of everything. The assortment is thoughtfully curated and features apparel, accessories, shoes, sunglasses, skincare, jewelry, and even Moorea Seal's own range of books and journals. Shoppers who want to give back will also love that Moorea Seal gives 7% of all proceeds back to a rotating list of non-profits.
1012 First Ave. Suite 150 Seattle, WA 98104
Neighborhood: Downtown

Flora & Henri

It's hard to believe, but Flora & Henri is celebrating 2 years in Pioneer Square this month! What started as a children's clothing line has now expanded into a full lifestyle boutique featuring womenswear, men's accessories, gifts, and home goods. The store is gorgeous and flooded with natural light, plus, the store also serves as the official HQ for Flora & Henri. The team shares loft-style offices upstairs where they design products, fulfill e-commerce orders and conduct wholesale business. Local brands stocked at the store include Herbivore Botanicals, Ampersand as Apostrophe, and Amy Augustine jewelry.
401 First Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98104
Neighborhood: Pioneer Square

Swan Dive

Shoppers who visit Clementine's in Pioneer Square will inevitably stumble upon Swan Dive, a treasure trove of vintage fashion curated by former Seattle mag lifestyle editor Ali Brownrigg, located in the basement of the store. At Swan Dive, shoppers will find vintage clothing along with an edited assortment of consignment from contemporary brands.
310 Occidental Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98104
Neighborhood: Pioneer Square

Likelihood

Save the best for last. Or at least that's what Rachel and I said to ourselves when we visited. Likelihood is a hidden gem on Capitol Hill that carries footwear and accessories for men and women and we were so delighted by the friendliness of the staff. Featured brands include Nike, Puma, and Vans, but you'll also find a mix of international brands like Hender Scheme, Spalwart, and Golden Goose. I'm also a big fan of the Maison Louis Marie candles and perfume oils because they make great gifts! No. 4 is the best scent of all and has notes of sandalwood, cedarwood and nutmeg.
1101 E. Union St. Seattle, WA 98122
Neighborhood: Capitol Hill

The retail industry is currently experiencing a major shift and it's more important than ever to shop local when you can- even if you're not making a big purchase, the small ones add up too. Yes, it may be more convenient to shop online and get door side delivery, but when you do that you miss out on the magical serendipity that happens when you visit a store in person. Rachel and I had so much fun chatting with store employees about what's new, what's coming, and what's been selling really well. It's valuable market insight that you can't get anywhere else, and when local shops go out of business, so does their localized assortment. If you enjoy visiting neighborhood shops and finding exactly what you need, shop local. Statistics show that for every $100 you spend locally, $68 stays in the community vs. only $43 when you shop at a national chain.

So get out there and have fun exploring Seattle! We have so many incredible boutiques that you can't find anywhere else in the world. Tag us in your Instagram photos so that we can see what shops and boutiques you stumbled upon! I'm @Sydlovesfashion and Rachel is on IG @Rachel.Waldorf. And if you like our video, please share it with your friends!

In our latest SydLovesFashion Field Trip video, we hang with Seattle style blogger Brittany Streissguth of Pumps & Plaid to visit Queen Anne Frame & Gift. This shop is locally owned by fellow style blogger Kirsty Papadopoulos of The Kirsty Files and her husband Nick. They even offer free gift wrapping, which has literally saved my life.

In addition to doing custom framing, Queen Anne Frame & Gift stocks jewelry (from local brands including Lucia K and Baleen), bath and body products, books, home goods, cards, stationery, notebooks, key chains, blankets, and more. Andieanderin - This company has ties (no pun intended) on the East and West Coast. Co-founder Lisa (pictured above) moved to New York earlier this year while her partner Cara continues to run the operation here in Seattle. Andieaderin makes a gorgeous assortment of neckties inspired by influential women both past and present. They just celebrated their one-year anniversary and recently added 5 new styles to the line. Coupe Rokei - This downtown hair salon is located across the street from The Thompson hotel and is locally owned by Rory McGowan. They do fabulous hair, make-up, and skincare including microcurrent facials and they also sell a large assortment of Oribe hair and beauty products. Check out their latest announcement in our fashion field trip video below.

F E R A L - This cool local handbag and leather accessory line owned by Shannon Fisher is 100% made in the U.S.A. and recently reached its funding goal on Kickstarter which means the brand can add more styles and colors to the already fabulous collection. Shop online and learn more about this cool local brand at FeralFeral.com.

LumberUnion - If you're just hearing about this Seattle-based lifestyle brand you're not alone. They are fairly new on the scene and they have some major things coming for 2019. The vibe is laid-back PNW and the merchandise includes styles for men and women. Meet founder Anthony Bergin and hear what he has to say about the brand in our Fashion Field Trip Video linked below. LumberUnion.com

Moonlit Skincare - Ok this isn't technically a local brand but they do have a local presence by way of Knack Shops on Capitol Hill. I'm in love with Moonlit's Midnight Shift Overnight Facial Oil and I'm pleased to report that they recently added several new products to the line-up including the Powder Down Powder and the Slumber Bath Salts. Rumor has it there's also a sleepy time tea coming next spring. Meet founder Stephanie Kim in the video below and shop online at MoonlitSkincare.com.

OULA- This cool local company focuses on small-batch artisanal garments and accessories that are globally styled and sourced. Founder Erika Dalya Massaquoi will be on-site at the Sip & Shop. Learn more about her story here.

Scotch & Soda - With two stores in the Seattle area (Capitol Hill and University Village), Scotch & Soda is making their mark on the city. The merchandise mix includes clothing and accessories for men and women and the prints this season are SO GOOD. They have great gifts this year including hats, socks, gloves, and many of them are priced under $150. Shop the Seattle store at 1530 Melrose Ave.

Moorea Seal - Local fashion fans got to meet Moorea Seal in person at the Thompson Seattle holiday Sip & Shop event and shop from a curated assortment of merchandise handpicked from the shop. Her books The 52 Lists Project and 52 Lists for Happiness make great holiday gifts! MooreaSeal.com
