3 Natural Skincare products I can't live without

Getting into a natural skincare routine is something that definitely didn't feel "natural" for me. For years I used products that were full of chemicals and the truth is, I didn't even think twice about it. I wrongly assumed that products with "active ingredients" and additives would be more effective to treat various skin conditions but I'm happy to report that I was wrong. YouTube vlogger Kendra Atkins of Vlog with Kendra recently put a new app on my radar called Think Dirty that lets you scan your beauty products and learn how toxic the ingredients are. It even suggests cleaner alternatives that are better for your skin. I had a great time scanning my beauty arsenal and I'm pleased to report that my skincare routine is "clean". Here are a few of my favorite natural products that I wish I would have started using sooner.

African Black Soap
I stumbled upon African Black Soap by Alaffia on Amazon.com (it was one of the products "suggested" to me on the site) and found out that the company is based out of Olympia, so I decided to give the cleanser a try. There are numerous benefits to using African Black soap and aside from the fact that it's great for combination skin, I love the fact that you can use it as a face wash, shampoo and even a shaving cream. It also works for clearing up dry skin and acne. You can get African Black Soap by Alaffia locally at Super Supplements, Whole Foods and of course, Amazon.com.

Rose Water Toner
Traditional toners usually contain alcohol which can be very drying for the skin and for those of us who depend on these products to get rid of oil, doing without them can be a deal-breaker. Say hello to Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel toner that smells sweet and has soothing aloe to tone skin without stripping it. I use this product as part of my regular skincare routine and love the fact that it doesn't contain alcohol. You can buy this product locally at Bartell Drugs and Super Supplements.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Ok, first things first. The smell of apple cider vinegar isn't the best, but the results are amazing, so bear with me. I started using Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar when I was pregnant because I didn't want to use chemicals to spot treat acne but I desperately wanted clear skin. This stuff really works! You can dilute it and use it as a toner or use it full-strength on spots as an overnight treatment. I apply it when needed after washing my face and wake up with clear skin. It's my little secret weapon. You can buy Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar locally at most grocery stores including QFC and Safeway.

So stop slathering your skin with chemicals and give these natural skincare products a try. You'll save money and love the results.

If you're flipping through fashion magazines and dreaming of a way to splurge on fall must-haves without breaking the bank, look no further. Bellevue's Hyatt Regency is hosting a very special Fashion Week sweepstakes that is not to be missed. The winner will receive the ultimate Bellevue Fashion Week experience including airfare to Seattle with transportation to and from the airport, a 4-night stay at Hyatt Regency Bellevue, tickets to each runway show including Front Row Fashion presented by Vogue, pre-show hair styling at Obadiah Salon, a $250 gift card to Daniel's Broiler, spa treatments at Yuan Spa, a $500 gift card to shop the Bellevue Collection and more. Enter to win on Facebook (it only takes 2 seconds) and be sure to share the contest with your friends!

If I won the sweepstakes, here's what my Bellevue Fashion Week Itinerary would look like:

Wednesday, September 24th
Independent Designer Runway Show
The IDRS show made it's debut in 2012 and showcases emerging designers who are competing for their chance to win a cash prize of $5,000 to fund their collection. This year's designers include Brian Cuddy, April Pride, Kristie Metcalf, Mia Fioravanti, Rebekah Adams and more. Last year's show was sold-out and the energy of the evening was unmistakable. This year's IDRS show is not to be missed, but before the show a pre-event hair appointment at Obadiah Salon is a must. Now the big question is, should I wear my hair up or down?

Thursday, September 25th
Spa treatments at Yuan Spa
Fashion Week can be exhausting so a reiki treatment at Yuan Spa would be a great pick followed by a smooth stone massage for total relaxation. The winner of the Bellevue Fashion Week sweepstakes will also receive a catered lunch at Yuan Spa.

Friday, September 26th
Posh Party Trend Show
The Posh Party trend show is a nice prelude to Saturday's Vogue presentation. Guests of the event will enjoy a runway show highlighting fall fashion trends from the shops at the Bellevue Collection. The evening will also include interactive beauty demonstrations, drinks, appetizers and photo booth fun.

Saturday, September 27th
Front Row Fashion presented by Vogue
This is one of my favorite Bellevue Fashion Week shows because it highlights fall fashion trends straight from the pages of Vogue's coveted September issue. VIP ticket holders receive entry to the exclusive post-show cocktail reception at Suite Restaurant & Lounge, so naturally, you'll want to dress to impress. There will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture the evening which as a must for documenting the fashion fun on Instagram.

So what are you waiting for? Enter the Bellevue Fashion Week sweepstakes now!

The tickets
This year's Fashion First runway show tickets start at $50 for general admission (standing room only) and go up to $500 for Ultra VIP tickets. There are a few ticket specials this year to make note of including the "double deal steals". See the ticket page for more info. Joan and I go way back, so this year we are offering a special promo code to save you $20 off any ticket type. Simply use promo code "Gossip" at check-out to receive the discount. Enjoy!

The final word
There are many runway fashion shows here in Seattle. Many of them come and go.
