Traditionally home to Seattle's Scandinavian community, today's Ballard is thriving with charming boutiques, yoga studios, great restaurants and plenty of opportunities to veer off the beaten path to discover something new. Here's a list of the best places to shop and dine in Ballard.


Horseshoe

Bastille
Hands down my favorite restaurant in Ballard, Bastille serves it's signature French cuisine using ingredients sourced from local "farmers, foragers and fisherman". The menu includes frites & aioli, a heavenly Bastille burger featuring arugula and pickled onions, and a raw kale salad with leek vinaigrette, sunflower seed hummus and Mimolette cheese. Tip: You won't want to miss the cool ambiance of the back bar. Head back for a drink while you wait for a table.

Zayda Buddy's 
Dubbed as Seattle's only Minnesota-style pizzeria, Zayda Buddy's serves up delicious pizzas, midwestern fare and has a full bar. On the menu you'll find cheddar cheese and chili fries, a tater tot casserole, a blue cheese and bacon stuffed burger and a "Ballard Bridge" pizza. Fun fact: Owner Joel Radin is one of the co-founders of Top Pot Donuts.

La Isla
A delicious spread of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine awaits at La Isla in Ballard. The restaurant started as a Fremont Sunday market food vendor and quickly grew a loyal following. The rest is history. The La Isla menu includes empanadas filled with pulled pork, ground beef and tender chicken, camarones (butterflied prawns sautéed in olive oil, garlic and white wine) and Pernil Divino (marinated pork shoulder) served with rice, beans and tostones.
