Seattle Shopping Guide: Capitol Hill

Known for being one of the most playful neighborhoods in Seattle, Capitol Hill is home to some of our favorite places to shop, eat and indulge. Whether you live on the hill or are visiting for the first time, we hope you'll find a few hidden gems in our Capitol Hill Shopping Guide.

Totokaelo (pronounced Toh-toh-kye-oh) located on Capitol Hill boutique carries an array of thoughtfully curated merchandise for men and women from designers like Dries Van Noten, Maison Margiela, Jil Sander, Rick Owens and more. In store you'll also find shoes and must-have accessories like Issey Miyake backpacks and Marni shoulder bags. Last fall Totokaelo opened a second store on Crosby street in New York.

Counting over 24 years on the hill, Le Frock Vintage has a fabulous selection of now and then designer clothing for men and women. In store you'll find everything from vintage Prada to fur coats and earrings. Check back often for hidden gems like Marc Jacobs handbags and costume jewelry to complete your look.

Melrose Market is another must-visit destination on the hill due to its community-inspired space featuring fresh flowers, organic produce and coveted local vendors. This is a great place to stop for lunch before or after shopping on the hill. Don't miss Glasswing, part retail store, part gallery. Cheese lovers: Don't miss the Cheese 101 tasting classes hosted by Calf & Kid. They feature locally made products from farms all over the Pacific Northwest.
1501-1535 Melrose Ave. Seattle, WA 98122

Voted Seattle's favorite vintage and indie fashion boutique, Pretty Parlor carries clothing, shoes and accessories from the 20's through the 80's. At Pretty Parlor you can also shop local designers including Jamie Von Stratton and Frankie Four. And for the animal lovers out there, they even have an entire photo gallery dedicated to Vincent, the shop cat. Enjoy.

New to the neighborhood, Visette boutique stocks casual and special occasion dresses for women, plus outerwear and accessories to complete the look. If you've got a cocktail party or a date night in your future, add this store to your shopping list.

Since 2008 Veridis has been stocking contemporary clothing for men and women from brands like Bridge & Burn, Greylin, Trina Turk, Pendleton and more. Spend $100 and get free shipping anywhere in the US.

If you're looking for home goods, don't miss Retrofit Home. You'll find a colorful assortment of wall art, mirrors, books, decorative accents, candles and more. They also offer design services for creative types looking to find a unique way to furnish their home.

Part cooking school, part French boutique, Paris Eastside offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in Parisian food, art, home goods and more. If you've been bitten by the travel bug but can't get away, stop in for a little piece of Paris. They also offer classes and great tips for traveling to Paris. 816 E. Pike St. Seattle, WA 98122

Located on the south end of Melrose Market, Terra Plata is one of the yummiest places to eat on Capitol Hill. With an "earth to plate" concept, Terra Plata serves fresh food inspired by the seasons. The menu features house-made potato chips with truffled sea salt, Octopus with chorizo,  beets with spiced walnuts and more. In the summer months, don't miss the roof top patio.
1501 Melrose Ave. Seattle, WA 98122

Owners describe the atmosphere at Grim's as "steam punk meets silent hill". We describe the atmosphere as "totally awesome" citing the liberal use of reclaimed and recycled materials to build tables, fixturing and lighting elements. Happy hour starts at 4pm and features grilled cheese + tomato bisque for $5. Escape the madness and enjoy a bit of privacy in the Butterfly Lounge, named for colorful butterflies housed in glass casings.
1512 11th Ave. Seattle, WA 98122

Coffee fans will want to check out the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room. The 15,000 square foot space is dedicated to roasting and coffee education. Sip coffee in the lounge while catching up with friends and then head over to Serious Pie (located in the building) for an evening of pizza and wine.
1124 Pike St. Seattle, WA 98101

For those with a sweet tooth, cap off the night at Dilettante Chocolate's Mocha Cafe for a Midnight Espresso martini. It's mind-blowing. Happy hour runs from 5-7pm daily and features a mix of sweet treats and savory bites.
