Easy Fashion Swaps for Fall

Fall is finally here! Brisk mornings and cool evenings mean that the unofficial wardrobe transition period (i.e. the  month of September) has ended so if you haven't had the chance to get one final wear out of your favorite summer pieces, you may be out of luck. But don't worry, we've got some great ways for you to wear your favorite summer shapes/styles/silhouettes while still being season appropriate.

If there's anyone who has a hard time giving up summer sandals, it's me. I grew up in Hawaii and literally live in flip flops year-round, but when fall is in full swing the least I can do is put on suitable shoes before leaving the house. A great compromise to my favorite summer sandals is a wedge peep toe bootie. You've still got the open toe action to show off a pretty pedicure and most importantly you've got great textures to choose from this season including rich suede, vibrant velvet and luxe leather.

The sheer tee was a lifesaver when summer temps reach unbearable highs. Unfortunately as the temperature dips in the other direction wearing a sheer tee isn't exactly practical. Add some sleeves and it's a totally different story. If you lived in sheer t-shirts this summer make a swap for a sheer, long sleeve knit tee or sweater. Both options make it easy to add on layers without adding bulk.

If you were one of the early adopters of this silhouette you probably already have at least one of the high/low skirts or dresses in your closet. Many of the spring and summer styles made their debut in sheer fabrics with short front hems. Try a heavier fabric for fall with longer overall hemlines and a beautiful drape that flatters your curves (or helps create them).

Thanks to Dolce & Gabanna flowers are not just reserved for the warm summer months. Fall florals pop when offset by dark background colors and look great when paired with autumn favorites like ankle boots, cozy sweaters, dark tights and baroque-inspired jewelry.

Although it may have taken some convincing, girls who tried the romper for spring immediately loved it's simplicity. The versatile one-piece gave way to countless looks with the simple switch of shoes and accessories. Look to the jumpsuit this fall for an easy one-piece option that requires minimal accessories and commands a lot of attention.

Daisy Duke denim shorts were everywhere for spring. During a late summer trip to Paris with the temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees I looked around and discovered that the denim short was a chic style alternative for Parisian women who want to look hot while staying cool. Styled with an easy tank and simple accessories the denim short is surprisingly flattering. Keep the look going for fall with a great pair of relaxed fit denim, cuffed at the hem and paired with colorful, studded flats or printed pumps.

If coral lipstick played up your golden tan this summer it's time to give it a rest and set your sights on a bold lip for fall. Fire engine red is the color of choice this season and gives any look an instant glam factor. If you're not ready to go red try a sheer red lipgloss instead. And remember, if you go bold for with your lips keep the rest of your make-up neutral.

The cross body bag was the perfect hands-free summer companion but Fall '12 is all about the stylish clutch. Try a faux croc skin clutch with gold hardware, get wild with leopard print in a classic silhouette or go bold with something bright like red or royal blue. Bonus: Toting around a great clutch is the perfect excuse to showcase a killer manicure. I guess this means it's time to stock up on new nail colors!
