London : Day One

There’s no easy way to spin it. Traveling from Seattle to London is tough. We had a 3 hour flight to Chicago and then a seven and a half hour flight to London. Even though it’s a shorter journey than when I travel to China, it seemed far worse. The woman sitting behind me from Chicago to London coughed for seven hours straight (I swear!) and the woman sitting in front of me kept reclining her chair as far as possible in an effort to squish me (I think!). None the less, we safely arrived in London along with our baggage (thank god!) and headed to our fabulous hotel, The Cumberland.

The Cumberland hotel is situated across the street from one of the entrances to Hyde Park and is strategically located just down from Oxford Street, which is home to fashion shops like Primark, Top Shop, Zara and more. The lobby of the hotel has a great vibe and features a haute couture fashion collection from designer Aimee McWiliams who was commissioned by the hotel to create a 4 couture pieces that communicate the individual style, character and history of the 4 hotels, which make up the Guoman Collection. The Cumberland creation is composed of a purple plaid dress and accessorized with a black leather belt (shown, below).

Upon arrival we were greeted with a gift basket from one of my favorite vendors at Zumiez. It was from Harrods and contained Pol Roger Champagne, Traditional English Biscuits, Mixed Nuts and Crackers. Time to celebrate!!!

London wouldn’t be London without Primark. My friend Sheena warned me about this fast fashion shop but I had no idea it was going to be such an insane experience. I haven’t seen this many frantic shoppers in a long time (even when I worked retail and it was Black Friday). Primark had adorable mini skirts, great summer dresses, leggings, jewelry, footwear, beauty products and more, plus the prices are great! People were crawling all over each other trying to get their hands on a good deal.

Stay tuned for my recap of Day Two! It's all about Harrods and our stroll in Hyde Park + details on our visit to Buckingham Palace!
